Live multi camera OB filming band assessment day

Today we went to Lever Street, Manchester College, the Centre for music

Firstly in the morning we set up all equipment such as. Camera, tripod, vision mixer etc, which took about (1hour 45 minute).

After setting up all equipments we filmed practice shot to get comfortable for the main filming of the band. After doing this we all went for our lunch break.

After break we checked all the equipments to make sure that everything was working before we start the live show. However before we started the live show we faced few problems and the problem occured were  the talk back were non of the camera operator could talk to the director but 2 of them could hear when the director was talking. We also had problem with camera 3 talk back were the camera operator couldn’t hear or talk to director . Moreover we had problem with sound mixer & tricaster but with the help of (Colin) we sorted the problem and we fixed the problem that happened.

After fixing all the problems we started to record. In the beginning of the show the presenter forgot to pick up the microphone so because of that we couldn’t hear him when he introduce the band. During the live show, the first act that I was responsible was directing. I think it went totally well but after the band finished performing we interviewed the performers again I faced a problem with the communication with camera 4 in the gallery room because camera 4 didn’t have a talk back which I could communicate with. We didn’t have any runner to communicate with me and camera operator but otherwise we had good communication skills.

 If I became a director again I will make sure to sort all the problems and have better communication with all the crew team to avoid any problems during the live show. Also I will make sure to have someone available to become runner if any problem come to our way.

Knowing risks

During the first act I didn’t see any risk because I was in the gallery room directing the first act. But for the second act when I was in the studio I saw few risks that could make hazards of tripping or falling. I saw a lot of wires on the floor that wasn’t covered, especially the floor manager talk back wires were all over the floor. As a team we set up the equipments and ensured that all the wires were covered. However for the second act the wires wasn’t covered because of to much movement from the floor manager.

 To prevent the risks from happening again I will be really careful as soon as I see any risks I will try my best to sort it out before it harm some one or make hazard of falling or tripping. Also I will alert all crew team to make sure everyone to be safe and out of trouble.

In this group I was responsible for the middle camera. We expereinced problems from the talk back during all todays show so we had to deal with it but overall we had good communication together as a group. Also I took some photo again and I would like to share them here.

As we were told that today we will film only 4 acts but on the end of the day they decided to film one more band. There is a detail of student who were responsible of the 5^th act.

I want to give a explanation about tableI put in to the blog that show the bands time and details of their names and title of the song. Actually we couldn't start at the same time is showing in the tables above because of problems we had with tricaster and sound mixer. Also I didn't have the 5th band details such as their band name this is because it wasn't  on the plan for today. The 1st act start at 2:15pm. The 2nd act start at 2:45pm. The 3rd act start at 3.20pm. the f4th act start at 3:50pm. The 5th act start at 4:00pm.
