29/05/12

In today lesson we was told to upload the final show into the DVD data and we had to go through a long process to get the footage out from tricaster and then copy it to the DVD. I found it hard in the beginning and I thought its really hard to go through that and I was looking some way to do that but I couldn’t find anyway to go through that process especially how to get the footage out from the tricaster. However, after the tutor (PETER) transferred the footage from tricaster to the LaCie and he made it easy for us to go through and find the solution for making DVD data. Moreover, after the footage was transferred to the LaCie we was told to make DVD but the file was really large and it wasn’t enough room in the DVDs so we had to compress the footage and make the file smaller and then put into the DVD again I did not know anything about handbrake which can make files smaller and easier, the tutor showed me and told me how to go through the handbrake and how to use it. So therefore after I found out how to use the handbrake I got the footage to the deck top and I then downloaded the handbrake and I put the footage to the handbrake it was really long process and it took about 7 to 8 hours to final step in the end of the day I still couldn’t get the finished file so therefore I have to leave it till tomorrow.
However, today I was re editing all the footage from the final show but it was really hard to re edit the footage and during the editing only for 2 minute footage it took more then 15 minute to render it so I left the editing and I stick with the handbrake. Today when I arrived to the College I had my final compressed footage ready which it was 8.13 GB but the handbrake compressed it to 806 MB and I was really pleased with that and it impressed me. I gained lot of experience from this and I really happy that I know how to use handbrake now which can help me a lot in the future. Also today I copied the final footage to the DVD data and its working properly, also I helped few other students and showed them how to use handbrake.

Research

Some more research about my VT

My VT is on the community culture which consists of the Kurdish culture, also the organisation that was developed in Manchester called Kurdistan art & culture.
Kurdistan art & culture was developed in 3.12.2006 for Kurdish community around the Manchester area.
However, the aim of developing this organisation was to show the Kurdish culture to different cultures and to mix with other communities around all the United Kingdom.

Kurdish community in Manchester run this organisation and they involve to all kind of festivals to show the Kurdish culture to different peoples form different communities, also in this organisation they have several kinds of activities which is Dancing, Theatre, Filmmaking, Music, Exhibition and seminars.

This organisation is an independent organisation which is not involve with any political activities and are supported by Kurdish community around the United Kingdom,

Moreover, this organisation based in Stockport Manchester, and they do dancing, theatre, exhibition and music festival several times a year.

The main activities from this organisation are the remembrance day of Halabja. Halabja is the city of Kurdistan which was attack by chemical weapon by Iraqi government in 1988 and killed more then 5000 thousand innocent people and wounded more then 10.000 thousand other, the remembrance day take in place every 16.03 in the year and this organisation organise the meeting in Piccadilly garden in Manchester centre to gather and pray for the martyrs. Also another activities which this organisation keen to do is the Kurdish new year (Nawroz), Nawroz is mean new day in Kurdish language, the first day of spring is Kurdish new year which its take in place in 21 March. March 21, is the biggest day in Kurdish culture and Kurdistan art & culture organisation organise the new year party celebration every year in Manchester area which they invite famous Kurdish singers from Kurdistan or around the world to celebrate the Kurdish news year (Nawroz). Moreover, this organisation also do festivals in exhibition and theatre often as well.

For our news package show which we was told to become with an individual idea and film our own ideas VT to make 30-minute news show, I have decided to investigate about a Kurdish organization which is being developed in Manchester area for Kurdish community based in Stockport and the organisation is called (Kurdistan art & culture). This offers lot of different directions I can go into while filming, editing etc.
However, I will contact peoples, who run this organisation which I know them by myself to get more information about Kurdistan art & culture, I will go to Stockport to meet them and also to find out when the Kurdish festivals will be on to organise for filming my VT. Also I will film my GV’s when Kurdish dancer perform in stage and also I will interview peoples from mentioned organisation and ask them questions about Kurdish culture such as 1- what is the aim of working with this organisation? 2- what is your own role in this organisation? 3- what made you to be involved with this organisation? And so on.
Moreover, I will film some Vox pop which I will ask questions to people from different cultures and communities if they have any information about Kurdish culture and the questions will be such as 1- do you know anything about Kurdistan art & culture? 2- have you ever been to their festivals or dancing show?
Also I will try my best to interview the chairman of the Kurdistan art & culture and ask some questions about when and why they developed such as organisation. Furthermore, there is some limitation on such as. I am not allowed to film anyone without permission so before I film I will ask for their permission to film them. Also I will ask them to sign the release and consent forms for me to be allowed to publish if I need.
Moreover, I will use a graphic for my news VT to make my news report more interesting for audience.

Diary

Today lesson was the final show for the music (Unsigned & Defined) which we had our assessment. However, firstly in the morning we start set up all the equipment needed for the show such as tricaster, red headlights, cameras and etc.
During setting up the equipment especially when I was setting up the red headlights the sockets power went off due to the one of the lights which after I found out it should have separated extension for the red headlights because its 800 V and it takes a lot of electric power.
Also during setting up the preview monitor for studio the BNC cable didn’t work, so we used the component cable to connect the preview monitor for the studio and finally find solution for the problem we had. Furthermore after checking all the equipment we went to the lunch break, then after lunch when we back we had a crew meeting which was useful and then each person went to their job role. The 1st group which Luis was directing went first and I was the part of the 1st group and my role was camera operator. During the show we face a small problem with talk backs, when Luis was talking to us I couldn’t hear him properly due to the rustle coming from talk backs. But otherwise I think we done quite good job today and I think it went very well and communication was very good.

Moreover, after 1st two bands performed and 1st group done they roles 2nd group take over and they start their assessment as well.
The 2nd group done good job as well but they face problem when they was in live and the band was performing the tricaster froze and they could not do anything about it and they have to continue recording. Overall, I think they done good job and had good communication as well and the only issue was equipment which we couldn’t do anything about it because it was working before we start recording the show.

In my view all the show went very well and I think we all done very good job which we all should be pleased with what we done today and I think it was much better then last module we done in Lever Street, there was some issues which we can have solution for it in future projects such as communication I think we can make it better and stronger also the equipment if we get better equipment I think we will do better job.

Diary

In today lesson we had final day of our 30-minute News Room Operation assessment. Firstly in the morning our group have to go first so we all as a group started set up all the equipment such as camera, tricaster, sound mixer etc.
However, it took about one hour till we set up all the equipment, we gone through to the rehearsal first for the whole 30-minute to make sure that everything will go well. Moreover, after we gone through the rehearsal it did helped us how to do all show in once. So therefore, we gone through the live show and it went really well, which we had to go through the live show and do it in once and we have to do exactly 30-minute and we done 30-minute 15 second which we was really pleased with it. Overall I think it went very well and everyone did their job well and communication was good as well. Furthermore, after our group finished the 30-minute live show we de-rigged all the equipment which second group have to set up again during their live show which gone live after lunch break and totally I think it went well for both group. The only thing I want to discuss here is de-rigging for second group which I saw again it wasn't good teamwork again as usual after they finished their live show there was only couple of students de-rigging the equipment and the rest was in the computers and some of others went home. Friday

Today I attended College for rehearsal for our news 30-minute live show. However, after attending College we start uploading some VT’s form students to tricaster and also we set the studio for rehearsal but unfortunately again there wasn’t enough student for the rehearsal. So therefore we decided to finish uploading and then I went home.




14/05/2012

Monday

In today lesson which we should have do our rehearsal for our 30-minute news live show in the studio but unfortunately it’s didn’t happen due to the VT’s again which some of the students didn’t did not filmed or edited their VT’s. Also some of the students didn’t attend the class today which its really effecting the process of the live show which will be on next week, However, for this module we did not have even one rehearsal due to the short VT’s and students which not attending class fully and I think it will be really effect the process of the show. Moreover, the group which I am in have couple of VT’s ready and we uploaded to the tricaster and we start working on other VT’s for the show. So therefore we decided to meet in College in Friday and uploaded all other VT’s which is not ready yet.

Diary

In today lesson we had second rehearsal for our live music show (Unsigned & Defined). Firstly in the morning we start setting up all the equipment for the show such as cameras, head red lights, tricaster etc. however, after setting up all the equipment the first group start their rehearsal. In today lesson we had only 2 acts for rehearsal so therefore each group had to do their rehearsal with one act and the group which Ashley direct went first for the take. Furthermore, here I want to talk about today communication between the crew and also about problems we faced today during the show, as always we talk about communication but we still have really poor communication together as a team for example during the setting up some students work hard but some of them just sit on the computer and watch YouTube. Also during the de-rigging it was same situation it was only couple of students de-rigging the equipment and the rest was sitting the computer room talking about the show how it went and they know it that all the equipment should be de-rigged. Moreover, during the first act when first group was in charge there were few problems about preview monitor inside the studio and also the sound in gallery room which Me, Abid and Luis fixed it after we took charge for our rehearsal. Furthermore, there is another thing that I would like to discuss and its VT’s which we have to film and edit and upload to the tricaster which I have already filmed and edited 2 VT’s and uploaded to the tricaster, both director are responsible of that to make sure all VT’s are ready and edited and already uploaded to the tricaster but unfortunately there is not response from both director which I think they have poor communication with other crew team, so in my view both director should work a bit harder to make everything ready and make sure the show will be run perfectly and also the both director should have better communication with other crew to prevents problems especially with presenters, floor mangers, camera operators. Overall I think today was better then last week and hopefully we will do well in the final day for our assessment.

Solution for the problems is to have better teamwork especially during set up the equipment and also de-rig, better communication during the live show to prevent risks or problems we might be faced.

In todays lesson we had first rehearsal for our live music show (Unsigned & defined) which will be broadcast live on 23/05/2012 in Manchester College Fielden Campus. However, firstly in the morning when I arrived to the college there were some students present and they was setting up the equipment. Today we didn’t need to set up all the equipment because yesterday we set all the equipment and the only things that had be set up was cameras and red head lights and auto cue. Moreover, today I had an opportunity to film my VT’s for the live show on 23/05/2012, which I am responsible to film and edit it. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to speak with two of those students whom will be involved with the live show and they will play the music. Prior the quick interview I took some GV’s from outside the college whilst Eliot Beese was walking towards the college and also I filmed him (Eliot) entering the studio room. During the time he was setting up the music instruments and performing I had the chance to film him in action. After filming Eliot I moved on to the second VT which was Josh Lipman. The VT included him (Josh) waiting in the computer room for his turn for the rehearsal. He then walked in to the studio and set up his instruments, getting ready to play his music. After shooting all the VT’s I then concentrated on my own job role which was camera operator. Finally we got everything ready for the shots. The first act went ok however, during the first act interview in the green room we faced a problem with the second presenters microphone which caused about 15 to 20 minute delay which had to be fixed by exchanging the XLR wires for the presenter microphone. After the problem faced with the first act we moved on to the second act. In my view the communication between the crew was poor and we should work hard together to get our communication stronger and better. So therefore for the live show we should prevent the faults from happening again and make sure we have better communication and interaction between the crew members.

However, after the first group finished we went on our lunch break. After break the second group takeover the roles and started the rehearsal.
I think the communication between the second group was stronger and better then the first group but the only criticism was that the green room floor manager was not present at the time of the interview.
